Shirley

Shirley Jackson is one of the most important American writers of the last hundred years. Since her death in 1965, her place in the landscape of twentieth-century fiction has grown only more exalted.

In honor of the centenary of Jackson’s birth on December 14th, we’re publishing a Deluxe Edition of the greatest haunted house story ever written, The Haunting of Hill House featuring a gorgeous graphite cover and an introduction by Slate‘s Laura Miller.

In addition to her classic tale, the Trade Paperback of Let Me Tell You, an astonishing compilation of fifty-six pieces of Jackson’s, more than forty of which have never been published before, was released in June. Two of Jackson’s children co-edited this volume, culling through the vast archives of their mother’s papers at the Library of Congress, selecting only the very best for inclusion.

To celebrate, host a birthday party for Shirley Jackson with your patrons and share your favorite of her scary stories around a pretend campfire. And since no ghost story is complete without them, make sure to have some ‘smores at the ready.
